Bidding Decision Statement
We welcome MassDOT’s decision to rebid the Service Plaza contract, reflecting a shared commitment to transparency and delivering the best outcome for the Commonwealth. At the same time, the reality is clear: until a new operator is selected and agreements are finalized, travelers will continue to face aging facilities, limited food and convenience options, and stalled investment. Without a master tenant ready to make significant capital commitments and bring a new vision to life, many of these plazas will remain in decline, with no certainty of when real improvements will be seen.
For years, we have served the Commonwealth primarily as a sub-tenant at these plazas, helping to keep them running but with limited discretion or tenure to make the kinds of improvements travelers justifiably expect. Operating portions is not enough—the plazas need major investment, a cohesive plan, and a partner with the scale, resources, and vision to deliver. That is why we have put in the work to be ready with a bold plan that can modernize these sites, expand EV charging, and showcase the best of the Commonwealth to millions of travelers.
As a fourth-generation, Massachusetts-based company, this is our home. With more than 1,700 Massachusetts employees, we know these plazas, these communities, and the travelers who rely on them every day. For 90 years, we have lived here, grown here, and served here, making us the right ambassadors for the Commonwealth’s future.
Our proposal demonstrated guaranteed revenue for the Commonwealth, modern amenities, and a seamless guest experience from day one. We remain fully committed to this process and are prepared to submit our transformative vision in the next RFP so that Massachusetts can finally move forward with revitalizing these critical public assets.
